Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone, and hope you are all well. At the NYCHSFA, we are off to a great start for 2020.

  • Our Scratch-Cooking Bill is going to be voted on in the next few months which will require the DOE to come up with an implementation plan (budget, timeline, etc) for making scratch-cooked meals available to all children. Read my story on the success of the Scratch Cooking Pilot here.

  • We have met with Mark Treyger's office about working on longer lunchtimes together.

  • Along with our partners at the Food-Ed Hub, we are working on ways to ensure every child has access to food and nutrition education.

  • With our partners at Garden Train, we will be working on a team to investigate the possibility of a DOE task force to look at feasibility of creating a school gardens-based curriculum for Pre-K through 12, similar to the Civics for All model.

We will be planning a Lobby Day at City Council for February. Stay tuned! We are looking forward to a great 2020!
