A HOLISTIC PLAN FOR SCHOOL FOOD
Reimagining How We Feed and Educate All Public School Children
Our whole-child proposal for school food includes changes in both menu and curriculum. It is informed in part by findings from the Food-Ed Summit that was held in October 2018 bringing together over seventy-five representatives of the NYC food and nutrition education community.

Change the Food: Real food made by real people (not factories) on every plate. Nourishing minimally-processed meals that appeal to the diversity of our city.
Change the Mindset: Provide every grade with nutrition and culinary education so that kids can make the best choices and understand the power of healthy whole foods
Grow the Food: Give kids a connection between the earth and the table by funding gardens at all schools; and
Increase the Time: None of this matters if kids don’t have the time to eat their lunches. Kids need 30 minutes for lunchtime, enough time to socialize and eat!
